Learning Home Garden Design
Most households invest their time and finances in beautifying the interior of their homes. However one of the best ways to appreciate the value of your home is investing in home garden design. Flowers, shrubs and perennial plants are an investment that will have a great return. If you don't think you have a green enough thumb than you may want to consider taking a garden design course. Community colleges or vocational schools often offer these type of courses. Alternatively you can invest in a reputable landscape architect.
Landscaping gardens is not something you can do with no knowledge of what you're doing, or you'll end up with an awful mess. It is important to understand how and where to place certain botanicals. For example if you are building a home and want a shady front yard, choosing the right tree or trees to plant is essential. When it comes to flowers, some take shade, some like partial sun and others grow best in bright, full sun. And that's not all you need to know. The watering schedule of the plants is important to know as well, to keep them alive.
If you don't want to take garden design courses, you can be self-taught. There are a plethora of websites with information and ideas. And, there are lots of books which can teach you how to design your outdoor garden. One title to consider is Designing Your Gardens and Landscapes: 12 Simple Steps for Successful Planning by Janet Macunovich. If you want a specialty garden with an Asian influence, check out something like All About Creating Japanese Gardens by Alvin Horton. Japanese gardens are great for small spaces and those who love the Japanese garden look.
Home garden design can be fun and improve the exterior of your home. There are so many different plants and flowers to choose from. You can even put in a water garden in your back yard, which makes use of small pools of water and aquatic plants. Some water gardens contain fish and feature soothing waterfalls. If you have a small outdoor space that does not allow for in-ground planting, container gardening can be the perfect solution. Most everything can be grown in a container and you can move them around to suit your needs and the needs of the plants.
